The outbreak of the new coronavirus infection has dramatically changed our society. Masks are required to be worn all the time to reduce the risk of infection, and the opportunities for direct interaction between people have decreased dramatically, and virtual interaction via the Internet has become popular to compensate for this. In fact, the previous conference of Japan Society of Coordination Chemistry was held in a completely online format using virtual conference tools (Zoom and Remo). Such virtual conferences have the advantage that they can participate from anywhere that can connect to the Internet, but discussion during breaks and conversations with many people are difficult.
In this online seminar, we would like to discuss in a panel discussion format about the new normal academia environment in the future after overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic from the perspective of diversity. The COVID-19 problem is still having a serious impact, but it should be overcome by the development of vaccines and therapeutic agents. It is the best opportunity to discuss the drastic changes caused by COVID-19 pandemic (e.g. online lectures, conferences and etc. that were hardly used before COVID-19). How should we take this time of change as an opportunity and build an academic environment where more diverse human resources can play an active role? We hope that many people will join and discuss.
